The pool is yours

Twenty-five square metres of water for four people, a brick wall on one side and the coconut grove on the other. No need to claim a lounger in the morning or come down before anyone else: the pool opens when someone gets up and closes when the last one goes back in.

Breakfast can be ordered the night before and arrives floating on a bamboo tray. It is the service the hotel keeps for these villas, and it makes more sense once you see where the sea is: behind the palms, a barefoot walk away.

Shower and bath, each in its own place

It is the only room type at Le Belhamy with a shower and a bath genuinely apart, not a tub with a handset over it. The bath is freestanding, the tiling is yellow and the floor is encaustic tile: an old-fashioned Vietnamese bathroom, not a beach hotel one.

At the back a door opens onto a small courtyard. The whole house is laid out this way: every room has a way out into the open air, which is why these villas are walked without corridors.
