The Standard Double is the entry room at the Royal Mónica. Ground floor, a furnished terrace facing the tropical garden of coconut palms and aloe vera. A double bed dressed in white linen, sand-coloured microcement floors that keep the room cool even at midday. The bathroom is complete, with a shower, hairdryer and the seaweed amenities the Royal Mónica team gathers each month from the cooperative in El Golfo. The terrace isn't large but it is yours — and from it you hear the trade wind before anything else in the morning.

Lanzarote is a volcanic island that faces the north-easterly trade wind. The Standard Double has its window set precisely to that aspect — the cool current drifts in at night and freshens the room without having to run the air conditioning at full.
In the morning the sun arrives at daybreak (around 7:30 in summer, 8:00 in winter) and traces a golden rectangle across the microcement floor. The Royal Mónica team leaves a tray of Tenerife coffee and two slices of toasted Canarian bread on the terrace half an hour beforehand — only if you ask for it at check-in.

A full bathroom with a glass-screened shower, twin white ceramic basins and microcement floors. The taps are unlacquered brass — the green patina of the hard Canarian water settles into them over the months.
The amenities come from the Famara workshop, a Lanzarote cooperative that presses local aloe vera oil and bottles it in Tahíche ceramic. If you take to it, you'll find it in the small shop by the entrance.
